Our priorities for 2025-2030

Priority 1

Living together in a green, caring and safe community.

. Pursue activities that enable Rhodians to get to know each other better, share moments of conviviality and help each other when necessary.

. Facilitate consultation & participation of residents in major projects of general interest (safety, environment, public works, etc.).

. Make solidarity between Rhode residents a priority by supporting both CPAS initiatives and Rhode volunteers.

. Creation of an association center to facilitate contacts with residents and encourage synergies between associations.

. Continuing the policy of acquiring targeted green areas to preserve the commune’s green character, setting up walking paths and constantly improving biodiversity.

. Pursue the security efforts that have led to a substantial reduction in the number of thefts and crimes in Rhode, by increasing the presence of neighborhood officers on the ground and the frequency of patrols.

. Hire a roadmender to combat incivilities and illegal dumping.

Priority 2

Public Works, Mobility, Heritage

. Redevelop the avenue de la Forêt de Soignes to guarantee secure bicycle lanes, speed reduction in dangerous areas and a greener avenue.

. Encourage the development of parking at the station by the SNCB and the construction of the RER.

. Create links between footpaths and cycle paths to encourage walking and cycling in the commune.

. Negotiate with the relevant authorities to improve public transport services in the commune.

. Look for a private partner so that young people who go out in Brussels can return safely to Rhode.

. Install more benches and toilets in public spaces.

. Redevelop the square behind the De Hoek church with a multi-purpose building that could house a crèche and playground, among other things.

. Transform the De Hoek Church into a multi-purpose space for exhibitions, concerts, meetings, etc.

. Build 15 additional apartments with services such as a crèche for around 25 children on the CPAS site.

. Construction of a building with 9 social apartments.

. Renovation of various public buildings to significantly improve their energy performance.

Priority 3

Sport, youth, associations and culture

Sport and culture are essential to improving social cohesion.

. The commune will continue its support for sports, cultural and youth movements.

. The organization of joint activities between communities and schools will be continued and expanded.

. The installation of a new crèche on the site of the rest home will promote inter-generational relations.

. Supporting language learning for people aged 7 to 97 also remains a priority: the commune provides financial support for additional Dutch and French language courses in all elementary school, as well as language courses for our senior citizens who wish to take them.

. Creation of a House of Associations to promote solidarity, sustainability and community spirit in a dedicated space.

Priority 4

Environment, Climate

. There will be a large number of projects aimed at improving biodiversity: planting around 18,500 trees (1 per inhabitant), a minimum of 1.8 km of hedges, increasing the number of late-mowing zones, demineralizing streets that are too wide and greening them (e.g. Golf district), etc.

. Development of facilities to substantially reduce the use of fossil fuels (electric terminals, photovoltaic panels, heat pumps, insulation, etc.).

. Continue the fight against noise pollution (overflights of our commune, reduction in the maximum speed limit for vehicles in certain areas, etc.).

Priority 5

Communication

. Improve the commune’s website: search engine, ergonomics, possibility of subscribing to a newsletter to receive important information or a digital version of the commune’s newspaper.

. Develop an “SGR-RSG” App to keep residents informed of activities,…

. Improve monitoring of incidents reported by residents via the website.

. Ensure systematic communication via all-boxes of any major work affecting a street or neighborhood.

. Relaunch la citizen participation :

    • by organizing information and/or consultation evenings for large-scale projects affecting the whole commune (e.g. RER project, redevelopment of the Espinette Centrale district)
    • by encouraging consultation on more targeted projects that only concern a single neighborhood

Priority 6

Language facilities

. The language facilities enjoyed by French speakers are a right. It is important to ensure, without provocation, that this right is also respected by the supervisory authorities, because these facilities improve the quality of life of many Rhodians, without penalizing those who do not need them.

. We will continue to ensure that language legislation is applied in compliance with the rulings of the Conseil d’Etat.

Priority 7

Finance

. We will continue the sound management that has enabled us to carry out numerous projects despite tax rates (IPP & Préc.Immobilier) that are among the lowest in Belgium. We will constantly fight against the waste of public money.

. We will not raise municipal taxes.
